” Given New Life “

Posted by Nana Bell on Jul 16, 2010 in My Mind unravelling

Last week while reading our local news paper. I came upon an ad that mentioned how young people could come to our local skateboard park, and with a small fee of ten dollars, that artist could express, and display his/her artistic talents for all who visited the park to see.

I once entered a post in which I spoke of the many talents all of us possess. I titled that post “Artistic Talent”. This post is a follow up to that post, and I was very pleased to see that someone in our fair city possessed the same passion  for the hidden talents of our graffiti artists as I do.

As I have said before I do not condone graffiti in anyway, shape or form. Graffiti is destructive to property, makes our town look slummy, and cost many dollars to repair any damages inflicted. Graffiti is also punishable by law, and is not condoned by the public, nor by the police force.

The Momentum

These words can only describe the drive these younger members of the artistic community possess. I see such poetry in their lines, and curves. Like a falling water fall or a rushing stream. There is much beauty in their designs, and many stories are told in their form.

Talent

There is a deep found passion that graffiti artists possess. A passion in their expression of their art. A perfection that many of us possess as well. We tend not to express ourselves on other peoples properties, but on canvas, paper, or whatever other kinds of material you may choose to use.

Passion

Whatever the design that has been created in the mind, will find it’s way onto a canvas of some kind. The city has supplied this canvas.

Perfection

There are so many talented artists out there in this large world of ours that have yet to be discovered. Our local skate board park was one of the “OKAY” places given to let our younger population showcase their talents. Our city need look further into a way to give these artists a permanent place to show off their talents. An event with a prize system of some sort, and an area in which to do this.

Expressive Colour

There were so many pieces of fantastic artwork created at the skateboard park that I cannot show them all in this post. I will make my next post a tribute to these talented graffiti artists, with more of their creations.

“Create on.”

Playful Passion

“Mans Effect On Nature”

Posted by Nana Bell on Jun 21, 2010 in Save the Earth

I often wonder if there are many people out there that notice the new found ways that nature is telling us to back off.

There has always been bear attacks, and bear sightings, and most times a human is hurt or killed as a result of the confrontation.

As man takes over the lands that the bear found refuge in, and the bears food supply becomes less and less. The bears come out to try to live with the human population.

Our own domesticated pets are at risk as are our children.  My husband always jokes, that if you are going to be out in the  wild, always go with someone who can’t run as fast as you. “HA! HA! ”

But, all fun aside, this is a problem that is growing at an alarming rate. When will nature get the space it needs to flourish where the food they need is plenty?

Lets think about the wild, and the wonders and bounty of pleasure it has always given us.

If we destroy the wild space they will never come back.

Mommy and Baby bear coming into town to find food.

This maybe cute to some, but the danger level is very high.

I also seen in a magazine and Man has caused the deep level of pain this wild creature has to endure. I cried, when the pain on this Pelicans face hit me to the core.

A Pelican covered in crude oil.

Man and his so called mistakes.

As man fights to lay the blame on who did it.  These beautiful creatures, and countless other species are perishing in Man’s mistake.

Will our children and their children ever be able to see the beauty that we seem to take for granted.

What are we doing? When will this all stop? Who will step up to the plate, and think before acting?

“YOU TELL ME. ” “PLEASE”

“This is not just a me, and not for you, matter.”  We all must fight to save this Earth before it is too late.

“WAKE UP!!!!”

“Devastation”

Posted by Nana Bell on Jun 6, 2010 in My Mind unravelling

Today while surfing my enter card sites I came upon a flurry of reports, and picture of the disaster  caused by the oil rig spill. I am very saddened by the dead, and dieing animals that for no fault of their own have become victims of this mistake.  Who will pay for the rescue of the countless birds caught in the oil spill?  ”How many more will die?”

Hope

“What about OUR water sources?”

Save the marshes

The rescue will be great and is growing every day.

If that is not enough I come across a site  that have petitions that need signing to stop oil drilling in Alaska.  (You can go to therainforestsite.com and scroll down to find various petitions. )   “Really!!!” :-(   Are you kidding.  Is this the only part of this planet that needs to be destroyed  by man.

Wise up… We only have one planet.  Stop the insanity.  Stand up and be counted let the Oil Companies know it is time to stop being greedy.

Save our planet before it is too late.

” Tent Caterpillars”

Posted by Nana Bell on May 23, 2010 in My Mind unravelling

Spring has come our way.

Furry little worm like critters are setting up house all over the land in any tree, bush, or plant around. These are not handsome critters, and have a reputation for destroying the plants they invade.

Tent Caterpillars

Getting rid of them can be a regular job for the gardener, and home owner.

To keep with the green planet theme I would like to give you my solution to getting them under control.  I make a potion of very hot water, and dish soap.  Not too much dish soap we don’t want to give them a bubble bath. :-)

Yuk Yuk Yuk

Opening the nest is the first thing to do.   To open the nest  take a very ” long” stick and open the pod.  This  action can bring on a  freaky feeling, as the worms wiggle around as they are subjected to the warm air.

It is now time to pour the hot water solution over the exposed critters.  ”Be careful not to burn yourself with the hot water. ”  The soap, along with the hot water will kill them off.

If you have a sprayer you can load it up with this solution and spray the plants.  Make the water luke warm at this point.  The dish soap puts a coating on the plant and will kill the chewing bugs.

I use one drop of dish soap in my house plants to control house plant pests. It may seem strange, but it works well.

We are in charge of this worlds vegetation, so our future generations can enjoy them.

Pass on your little green solutions to those younger than you.

” The planet depends on US.”

” Allowing our Planet to Breathe. “

Posted by Nana Bell on May 6, 2010 in My Mind unravelling

This land yields us many varieties of plants and trees.

Trees that bloom

Trees of green

Trees of winter

In times before ours, forests covered the lands. Vegetation  ran ramped, covering the ground with colors of greens, blues, yellows, whites of ever tone, and various other colors.  The beauty of land was wild, and untamed. The rivers, streams, and lakes were teaming with all kinds of aquatic creatures. Life in this time was hard, dangerous, but yet rewarding. The air our forefathers took into their lungs each day was purely heaven. There were nothing but the aromas of nature, and the smell of dinner cooking from time to time.

The doctor came to you if needed. People took care of  medical treatments with herbs from their gardens, and the land. The barks of trees were used to make brews to cure the medical ailment. The forests gave many products that made living better. Trees in these forests not only purify the air, keeping it clear of dirt, and harmful pollution. Trees gave lumber for building homes, furniture, dishes, and the creation of transportation vehicles.

Timber became a demand, as towns grew larger, and larger. The forests started to dwindle under the demand.

As time moved on the demand for lumber caused clear cutting. Taking away the very plants that held the soil together, and very importantly took away shade features, and the best air purifier this land has know. With out the trees our lands were scorched by the sun, blown by the winds, leaving the land barren. What have we done to prevent this devastation?  Clear cutting still exists, destroying the lands  many groups defend, but often are unable to gain the ground needed to save the trees. What is wrong with the population, we have other man made products to build homes with. We have all heard about going green which is a great step to save the planet.  How about giving  nature chance to change the planet?

When a home is built the land is cleared of all green. The trees are removed unless specified by the builder, and purchaser. And what do the builders do, they leave the ravished land for the owner to develop, and add the trees. The cities plant a tree on the city owned boulevard. One tree, what does that do for purifying our air? Very little. I think that all builders should be responsible for planting a tree or two on each site, leaving this world with a step in the green direction.

Let’s change the things we can, and plant a tree to give this land life, and beauty again.

“So, when you are resting under a shade tree, think about the things that tree gives you for free.”

“Our Planet”

Posted by Nana Bell on May 1, 2010 in My Mind unravelling

This great round ball we live on; sustains the lives of many large or small. Turning on invisible axis it turns ever slowly, as we spin silently into the seasons of our years.

The sun brings us warmth. It helps our food to grow, the plants to thrive, and helps the smiles on our face seem brighter. The moon brings us darkness, a chance for all to rest, and rejuvenate . The  moon brings  the changing tides of the seas in an ever changing cycle of life.

Our planet called; “Earth.”

With out it we would not be. Just endless vibrations floating lazily in space. For a place so vital  to our existence we treat this planet with little respect. For far too many centuries to count. We have tossed  our waste to the wind, and where  it lands has never seemed to be our bother. Such a fragile state this planet has become.

Oh; we have taken note of some of the changes we must adapt in order to save this world. But, not all of us have taken heed to the warnings of those who see what most of us cannot. Can we not hear the warnings given by this planet.

The rumbling of volcanoes as ash chokes the life from all around it. The shaking of the ground beneath our feet. The explosions of man made off shore  oil rigs that fall into the seas, leaving nothing but an uncontrollable slick of dark crude oil , heading for the very land we live on.  Covering our helpless wild life in toxic covers of death.

The train that  falls of the track too close to home of sleeping people unaware as to what has just happened. “Run from your home, the spill is of a dangerous nature, and you are at risk”.

The waves of an angry sea that bridge the walls that are deemed safe enough to save lives. Many people lost, and many more unaccounted for. The sea has taken them away, or the earth has swallowed them up. A snow storm where none has ever been seen before,  a drought that scorches the earth, destroying the food we need to survive.

The lakes, ponds, and streams left barren. You can hear gasping of a water creature breaking the silence of the once rolling brook.

Are these not signs that we should see, and pay attention to?  What the heck is wrong with us? What will we leave our future generations to come?

No clean cool streams, and lakes. A cool drink of life sustaining waters would be gone. What would we leave but a shattered planet no longer capable of sustaining life.

Is this what you want? ” Not Me.”  I want to leave a planet full of life for others to share.  Let’s pull together and make a difference and make this planet shine.

“Because we don’t own this planet, we just rent it.”

“Don’t Fool With Mother Nature”

Posted by Nana Bell on Apr 25, 2010 in My Mind unravelling

Have you ever taken the time to just breathe in the fresh cool air of a spring morning?

The sun so bright.

Eyes squinting endlessly as you try to block the rays with your hand. Spring is the season of wonder, and beauty.

"Spring"

A time of renewal. The fresh new blades of green grass raise their heads from their long winter sleep. The blooms of flowers peek their heads from the cool earth, with a blaze of many colors to brighten our world.  People emerge from their dwellings, after a long winters captivity. Windows are flung open to let the stale air escape, and the fresh air enter.

The long awaited end to winter has come. Spring is here!!!

Born in spring, on wabbly legs a baby animal clings closely to it`s mother.  A sign of a new life.

A tiny sign of life.

All the signs of spring dazzle our senses.

Or is it all just a smoke screen, or joke played by Mother Nature.

We become so captured by the thought of our new found freedoms, we forget the this is early spring,  not a merge into summer.

We wake the next day to the sight of  frost on the tops of homes. The scattering of snow that covers the blades, and blooms.“ NO!“

It`s not April Fools. What is going on? Have we been fooled again? ” YES”

We still brave the cool crisp mornings, in the hopes that spring will be here to stay.

Walk by the half frozen lake.

” Have faith it will.”
